The Bulgarian capital Sofia is one of the oldest European capitals and its history dates back to more than 7000 years ago. The city of Sofia has at least eight types of mineral springs which are not used properly. If just half of them are developed for the purposes of treatment and tourism, this would lead to very high revenues, and will turn the capital into one of the biggest spa centers in Europe. The architectural plans for the capital include development in this sphere in the future.

Besides the construction of several spa centers, the plans for the city further include preparation of bottled mineral water that could be offered at the Sofia accommodation units and serviced Sofia apartments and even be used to treat various diseases. In Sofia and around the town have been discovered 50 mineral springs, a significant part of these springs being renewable. Those with greater water exchange deposits are placed in the areas of Knyazhevo, Gorna Banya, Pancharevo, Bankya, Zheleznitsa, etc.

The plans for the future of Sofia further include the construction of a new amusement park, that is planned to be built in Dobroslavtsi area, on the former military airport. There is also a plan for the construction of a track for racing and motorcycling. The plans for the central zone are connected with more greenery, better access to the archeological sites and the places of entertainment and shopping. Zones for practicing golf and horse-riding are planned to be arranged in the nearby Vitosha Mountain. Other sports that could also be developed include water skiing in the nearby Iskar and Pancharevo lakes.
