Renting a Sofia apartment? Get the best deal on the market
The first sector that felt the world financial crisis in Bulgaria was the real estate sector. That led to normalization of the galloping prices, stagnation on the mortgage letting and stir on the Sofia rental market. The expectations for an increased demand for rental apartments in the capital are already being met because of the increased number of locals who are looking to rent apartments in Sofia and the increased number of tourists who are visiting the city for the weekend or spend a night here on their way to and from the ski resorts.

Since May 2008 the deals on the rental market in Sofia have gone up with up to 15 % for the small studio, one and two bedroom apartments, as the demand for such accommodation units is highest. Only for the last two months the rental prices in the capital have gone up with more than 6 %. The real estate agency and the property letting companies state that the most sought after are apartment that are located in the city centre or close to the universities and the large shopping venues. The Bulgarian clients prefer the apartment they rent to be unfurnished and with size varying form 40 to 55 sq.m, while the tourists and those foreigners looking for a longer or permanent stay search for a nicely decorated and comfortably furnished two or three bedroom Sofia apartments.

The residential districts that are traditionally most prestige and attract the tenants and tourists attention are the centre, Lozenets, Ivan Vazov, Iztok, Dianabad, Students Town and Mladost. These districts keep their value as they offer large, luxuriously renovated apartments, proximity to supermarkets and food chains, restaurants and shops. The two main characteristics that are always valid are the location and its good appearance.
